The future of driving is here with electric vehicles. They are not only cleaner than the traditional fossil-fuel-powered cars, but they are also much more convenient in terms of running cost. Cities around the world are pushing to make their roads electric. Places like London, Berlin, and Amsterdam plan on having all-electric cars by 2035. It’s not just in the West anymore, but in India too. India has arguably the highest number of daily drivers - about 40 million people - which also happens to be the world’s largest population of unbanked individuals. Therefore, India is also promoting its electric future by announcing plans for an entire fleet of "electrified" buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws by 2030.
Having 40% of drivers switch to electric vehicles could save $14 billion by 2030 and $110 billion by 2040 on fuel costs alone, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF). What this means for India is that they will be able to reduce their dependence on imported oil and bring down emissions significantly.
